The new BMW 530e iPerformance joined the range of the German brand a few weeks ago and became the most efficient Series 5. This plug-in hybrid variant is capable of recording an approved consumption of only 1.9 liters per 100 kilometers, with the possibility of traveling up to 50 kilometers in electric mode.
Now, thanks to the BMW Digital Charging Service, BMW is the first vehicle manufacturer in the world to offer an advanced, convenient, economical and optimized charging service for the use of «green energy». With wireless charging BMW we can charge this 530e iPerformance wirelessly from 2018.
This technology makes it possible to transfer energy without wires. The system, presented by BMW as a prototype, consists of a base with an integrated primary coil, which can be installed, for example, in a garage but also on the outside, and a secondary and open coil integrated in the underside of the vehicle.
An alternating magnetic field is generated between the two coils, through which the electricity is transmitted without cables or contacts with a load power of up to 3.2 kW. This form of powering the high-voltage battery is very comfortable for customers and offers a charging time of about three and a half hours.
In the new BMW 530e iPerformance, the high-voltage battery with lithium-ion cells with a total capacity of 9.2 kWh, has been placed in a place that saves space, under the rear bench, and includes an efficient system Cooling with a perfectly integrated low temperature circuit.
Thanks to the excellent installation of the battery, the boot of the BMW 530e iPerformance offers 410 liters of capacity and a flat base. The high-voltage battery of the BMW 530e iPerformance can be fully charged in less than five hours in a normal household socket and in less than three hours if the BMW i Wallbox system is used (load capacity: 3.7 kW).
