For the spread of malware and all types of infections there are always two main routes, the Internet connection and our USB ports, while through the first method we can end up infected when accessing certain websites or opening certain emails, in the second the infection will come when a pendrive or external hard drive containing malware is connected to our computer.
Well, our goal for today is to avoid the second option, because if we have control of when we want a USB device to connect or not to our system, we can have control of what is connecting and thus have the certainty that We will not end up infected.
For this, we will use USB Drive Disabler, a free software, valid for any version of Windows and with which we will be able to enable or disable the connection of this type of device to our system in a very simple way, as simple as opting for one option or another.
As we can see in the screenshot, the application does not have any type of complication, since we will have to choose to enable or not the use of USB devices and that will be enough for our Windows to allow or not the connection of pendrivers and external hard drives.
Ideally, this option should always be deactivated and at the right time we will need it, activate it in a timely manner and deactivate it once we have finished with our task, so we will have absolute control over what connects to our equipment and the risk of infection will be less.
This application is especially useful in portable computers, which at some point is easier for someone outside of us to have physical access to the computer, something that on a desktop PC that we have in our home is more complicated.
Therefore, if you are interested in having control over the USB ports of your operating system, do not hesitate to use that simple application with which you will achieve your goal in seconds.
