Bad news: the new Seat Ibiza will not have a Cupra version

Few details are left to tell you about the new generation of the Seat Ibiza. The small one of the family has just been renewed after four generations and more than 5.4 million units sold. Undoubtedly a historic in our country.

But in this fifth generation, characterized by having the most advanced technology, a spectacular dynamism and an incredible increase in comfort and interior space, not all is good news. Lovers of strong emotions will be disgusted to know that we will not see a Cupra version in this new generation.

That's right, Seat has decided not to put effort into creating a utility that rivals the Ford Fiesta ST, Volkswagen Polo GTI or Renault Clio RS. It may be a controversial decision, but if we analyze it in the cold it is more logical than it might seem at first.

It has been Antonio Valdivieso, head of product communication of the brand, who has released the news at the Barcelona Motor Show. And the argument offered points to the sufficiency of the variant with 1.5 liter TSI engine of 150 hp as top of the range of a petrol model of this segment.

If we add that the clientele interested in a model of the characteristics of the Seat Ibiza Cupra does not seem to be profitable enough for the Spanish brand we have the perfect conditions to not see this small sports car in the new generation of Ibiza.

As a curious fact Seat has also confirmed that there will be no family variant or three doors of the new Ibiza.

The definitive mechanics of the new Seat Ibiza
All the engines available in the new Seat Ibiza comply with the Euro6 emission regulations and set the standard in its class for its exceptional qualities, high autonomy and low emissions.

In gasoline there are different engines to choose from. The first option is the 3-cylinder 1.0 MPI with 75 HP; the next one is the 1.0 TSI with turbocharger, intercooler and direct injection that can give 95 or 115 HP; In addition, the mentioned 1.5 TSI four-cylinder with 150 HP will soon be available.

In diesel, the efficient 1.6 TDI will be available with 80, 95 and 115 HP. The available manual gearboxes are a 5-speed for engines with less than 95 hp and a 6-speed transmission for more powerful engines. The gearbox of double clutch DSG of 7 speeds is another of the available options.
